Flipkart is launching ‘experience zones’ at 20 locations across the country, enabling customers to pickup shipments at a convenient time and location.
The move is in-line with its alternate delivery strategy to navigate the issue of unavailability of customers during delivery and restriction on entry of delivery agents into certain areas.
Apart from enabling pickups, services like instant returns, spot trials, open box deliveries and exclusive product demos will also be rolled-out at these zones in the near future.
At first these zones will be setup at Bangalore, Mysore, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Pune, Vellore, Gurgaon, Vadodora and Surat, but will also form a key element of Flipkart’s rural strategy.
Flipkart is looking to open such experience zones in Tier 4 towns and rural areas, making the entire town serviceable from a single center – a reliable alternative to door-to-door delivery.
Amazon too had rolled out store pickups in India by tying up with oil company BPCL, giving it a wide physical store presence across India almost instantly.
While Flipkart is going down the route of independently setting up its own experience zones, it is to be seen how value added services such as instant returns and alteration on fashion products drives adoption.
