#flipkart has now introduced same day delivery guarantee and in a day guarantee for deliveries. If you order before 12 noon, the company will deliver the same day. If you order before 6 pm, you get the delivery the next day.
As an introductory offer, Flipkart is also giving away orders of upto Rs 5,000 for free, if not delivered within a day. And by free, Flipkart means that the amount will be refunded to your Flipkart wallet with no cash refunds as such. The offer is also available only for 2 days until April 30, 2014.
Same Day Guarantees: Flipkart Vs Amazon
As competition in the Indian e-commerce players rises, e-commerce companies are increasingly moving away from price point differentiators, to ones that boost convenience and customer service.
On Flipkart, both the same-day and in-a-day delivery options come at an extra cost of Rs 140 and Rs 90 per item purchased.
Amazon has the same options as well, but the price points and delivery conditions vary. Amazon’s costs are reflected on a per order basis, as compared to Flipkart’s per item cost – which makes Flipkart’s guaranteed delivery proposition much more expensive.
Amazon offers same-day delivery for Rs 149, and guaranteed one-day delivery for Rs 99 per order. In addition to this, Amazon also has a two day delivery option for Rs 79 per order. It also automatically refunds shipping charges on products that are not delivered within the specified time frames.
In order to strengthen its delivery network Amazon has also recently tied up with kirana stores in Bangalore to facilitate in-store pick ups for orders. A commission will be given to the kirana store owners for the facility.
Flipkart which had recently hit $1 bn in GMV has introduced the same-day delivery for 10 cities. The in-a-day guarantee is available in 27 cities across the country with a guaranteed delivery by 6 pm the next day.
The move by Flipkart isn’t a first. Other players in the space like SnapDeal and Tradus had no guarantees, but had introduced same-day deliveries, free of charge in January. While Flipkart and Myntra are now set to merge, Myntra too had introduced a 1 hour delivery facility in August 2013.
