Flipkart Flyte Data

Six months ago, we reported that Flyte had crossed 600,000 downloads, but Flipkart has now confirmed to NextBigWhat, that its current registered user base for Flyte is around 1 lakh which has downloaded a total of 2.5 million songs.

Flyte started with a catalogue of a million tracks from 150,000 unique albums. Today, it has an aggregated catalogue of over 5 million Indian and international tracks.

Sameer Nigam, VP – Digital Services of Flipkart.com says that, most of the music downloads in the first year have come from the website but that they expect to see a lot more traffic to shift to mobile devices.

Flyte: Language Preference

Flipkart said that English is the most popular language for download of songs followed by Hindi. While Pani Da Rang Male was the most popular downloaded Hindi song, Psy’s Gangnam Style came out on top in the international category.

“It has been a fabulous learning experience. We have spent the first year trying to build the market for legal music purchase in India. We have always believed that people will be willing to pay for their music if the service and the selection are compelling enough – and that is what we have constantly worked towards”, Sameer Nigam said.

He adds that Flyte aims to get to 1.5 – 2 million customers over the next one year.

The albums available for free download has been selected by Flyte from genres across the board like Bollywood classics, Ghazals, Sufi, Devotional, Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop and R&B, Jazz and Blues and regional music from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata, Punjab, Kerala and Maharashtra among others.

We think this move by Flipkart will go a long way to publicize Flyte and also spread the the advantages of downloading legal music. This offer has already got great traction with users of social networking sites praising and thanking Flipkart.

The albums can be downloaded onto computers from the Flyte website or using the apps for the respective smartphones on the Windows Store, Google Play Store and the App Store.
