Foodpanda Acquires JUSTEAT India & Other Competitors In 7 Countries

Online food delivery company foodpanda has announced full acquisition of its key competitors in 7 countries. Foodpanda is globally active in 39 countries across 5 continents and has acquired competitors in India, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Pakistan, Hong Kong, and Thailand.

In India, foodpanda has acquired Tastykhana in November 2014 and had later acquired Just Eat’s India business. Consolidating business after acquisition, foodpanda is currently present in 200 Indian cities and partners with over 12,000 restaurants in the country.
In exchange to the sale, JUST EAT plc receives a minority holding in foodpanda.in. foodpanda India will assume full ownership of JUST EAT India.
JUST EAT plc launched in Denmark in 2001 and was traded publicly on the London Stock Exchange. Their Indian business was launched as Hungry Bangalore in 2006. It was renamed in 2011 when JUST EAT acquired a majority share in the business. Today, the company partners with over 2,000 restaurants.  The current management’s local experience and knowledge will further add to the expertise of foodpanda and TastyKhana teams in India.
In Malaysia, Philippines, and Singapore, foodpanda fully acquired Singapore based Food Runner. The food ordering business operates Room Service in Malaysia and Singapore, as well as City Delivery in Philippines. foodpanda already runs foodpanda.com.my, foodpanda.sg and foodpanda.ph in these countries. As a result of these acquisitions, foodpanda caters to its customers with over 1,200 partner restaurants in all major cities of Malaysia, Singapore, and Philippines.
In Pakistan, EatOye was acquired by foodpanda. The company with over 1,000 partner restaurants in 15 cities offers table reservations as well as online food ordering. EatOye continues to operate under existing management and together with foodpanda.pk offers food ordering services in Pakistan.
foodpanda Hong Kong will acquire Koziness.com, previously branded iDelivery, which also operates the brands Dial-a-DinnerSOHO Delivery, and Ring-a-Dinner, which have been delivering food since ten years. After the acquisition, foodpanda will optimize traffic between all four brand names. All brands will continue running, providing customers with food ordering facilities from over 500 restaurants.
In Thailand, foodpanda partners up with Food By Phone, which has been fast growing in its online marketplace for food deliveries. Food By Phone has been a pioneer in the Thai food delivery service, working with the best restaurants in Bangkok since 1998. Its partner restaurants will also be available through foodpanda.co.th website and mobile application. Customers can choose from over 650 restaurants in three of Thailand’s biggest cities.
Weeks after a series of acquisition in Europe, the foodpanda group now also gained a leading position in South East Asia, next to its other core markets in India, Russia, Brazil and Mexico.
30% stake in Foodpanda is owned by Rocket Internet. The acquisition of food delivery startups across Asia through foodpanda hints towards a consolidation of such services by Rocket internet.
