Amit Singhal, Google’s longtime chief of search, and one of its earliest employees has joined the board of online payments and e-commerce firm Paytm to strengthens its financial and technology management.
Paytm’s CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma in a Facebook post had indicated this, when he posted a video in which Singhal is seen talking about something awesome coming up soon.
Amit Singhal’s 15-year career at Google began when he rewrote the search engine’s ‘ranking algorithm’, helping engineer the formulas that decide how web pages respond to user input. He led a team responsible for creating Google Search as well as the core search quality department.
Prior to Google, he worked at AT&T Labs, where he conducted extensive research in IR and database programming.
He will be joining Paytm as an additional director on the board.
