Freshdesk Acquires AI-based Social Chat Platform Chatimity

Customer support software startup Freshdesk has acquired Bangalore-based chat app and bot creator Chatimity to strengthen its AI chatbot capabilities. This is the 6th acquisition for the company in little over a year, and second in the chat space. The size and terms of the deal are unknown.

Founded in May 2011 by former Google employees Tarkeshwar Thakur and Aravind Murthy, Chatimity is an artificial intelligence (AI)-based social chat application which helps people discover others based on locality and interests and has since grown to over 3 million users across various platforms.

Chatimity had announced the closure of its social chat app 5 months back on June 1 and said it will continue to support it till Dec 1, 2016. Along with the technology, its seven-member team will join Freshdesk to work on building the company’s chat offerings.
