App analytics company Distimo has released its top performing applications for May 2013 where they pin point the leading applications in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. These charts are on a globally aggregated level.
Top Free Applications
King.com’ Candy Crush Saga remains the No. 1 free applications on the Apple App Store with a new game Fast & Furious 6: The Game by Kabam at No. 2. The top 5 is rounded up by Gameloft’s Iron Man 3 on 3, YouTube on 4, and Angry Birds Friends by Rovio, which released just in the beginning at No 5.
In the Google Play Store, the positions were the same as last month, with Facebook leading the pack and followed by WhatsApp Messenger, which is continuing to gain popularity. Facebook Messenger comes in at No 3 followed by Skype. Candy Crush Saga was the only game in the top 5.
Top Paid Applications
WhatsApp Messenger, which costs a Dollar, remains the most popular paid application in the Apple App Store. The remaining 4 in the top 5 are games, with new game Heads Up! by Warner Bros. at 2. Minecraft holds its position on rank 3, Survivalcraft, which was released in May, is at No 4. Pou rounds up the top 5 paid apps on the App Store.
The top 5 apps for Google Play paid applications have remained the same since March. Swift Key Keyboard and Titanium Backup PRO Key root are the No. 1 and No. 2 apps respectively. Poweramp is at 3, Nova Launcher on 4 and Minecraft, which happens to be the only game, is found at 5.
Most Revenue Generating Applications
Puzzle & Dragons is the top revenue generating application in the Apple App Store, followed closely by Candy Crush Saga and Supercell’s Clash of Clans, at 2 and 3. Supercell’s Hay Day at No. 4. Kabam’s The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth rounded up the top 5. As one can most of these apps are based on the freemium business model and use in-app purchases.
The top ranking for apps with the most revenue for Google Play has also some new names. Puzzle & Dragons remains at the top on rank 1. Number 2 is surprisingly taken by messaging application LINE. LINE Corporation’ LINE WIND runner, a new game is at 3. Both the Line apps are very popular in Japan. ????PRIDE by COLOPL, Inc is at 4 and and Candy Crush Saga is at 5.
These charts give an idea of what is popular on the app stores and a general trend that is seen is that it takes time for a new app to gain popularity, while older apps continue to do well.
