Gift Facebook friends in 3 steps using Friends Club on Giftbig.com [Some gifts are free]

Gifting is almost always a complicated exercise. But that’s been changing with gift cards and online vouchers. It just got a lot more easier and you might even get to send some for free. A new Facebook based solution launched by multi brand gift card store Giftbig.com will let you send physical gift cards or e-vouchers to your friends.

Some brands like Cafe Coffee Day, Puma and Himalaya, are offering free gifts on the site as well. If  you like, you can top up the free card with extra money before gifting.

Qwickcilver’s platform already powers retail brands like Flipkart, VanHeusen and Landmark to launch gift card programs, mobile & email based gift cards and promotional cards. The four year old company backed by Helion Ventures and Accel Partners counts over 4,000 premium outlets in more than 250 cities as its clients.

How does it work?

Its a simple three step process after you signup. Once you register using your Facebook account on friends.giftbig.com, you will be shown a dashboard which will display a list of friends and events. Like for instance, if a friend’s birthday is today, he will show up on the list. All you need to do is select a friend and you will be sent to a screen which recommends gift vouchers to be sent. One can select e-vouchers or physical gift cards (like an ATM card) from companies like Flipkart, PVR Cinemas, Fastrack, Dominos and others.
Once you select the voucher and the amount to be gifted, its the usual check out procedure that you see on any other e-commerce site. You can also call a number to shop for gift cards.

When one receives a gift, the user is notified on Facebook. After signing up to claim the gift, you will be prompted for the delviery address to which the gift card is delivered. More on redeeming gifts here.

Interesting aspects

The clever part is that through Facebook,  the company will know a lot of publicly shared information like your birthday, friends birthday, their locations and e-mail addresses. This can be put to use by encouraging users to send a gift whenever an event like a birthday or a friends birthday happens.

For brands, its an attractive proposition as they can leverage their FB fanbase and also show up no the Facebook newsfeed whenever someone sends a gift or redeems one.

Giftbig’s social FB presence is integrated to the physical stores of brands for tracking sales performance in real time.
