Former South Korean Go champion Lee Se-Dol has announced his retirement, declaring that artificial intelligence in the game means that ‘even if I become number one, there is an entity that cannot be defeated’.
Google’s AlphaGo, since its debut in 2016, has destroyed its competition. Only one person has managed to defeat it and that is Lee Se-Dol. He lost 4-1 against an older version in 2016.
Lee Se-Dol’s announcement now has come on the heels of a release of an improved version of AlphaGo.
Go is considered to be one of the most complex board games in the world, with a history of over 2500 years and AlphaGo brought greater attention to the level of advancement in AI.
