In the month of August, Google was under severe attack owing to the controversy regarding depiction of Arunachal Pradesh (read: Whoa! Google shows parts of Arunachal Pradesh in Chinese Language).
Google India maps showed parts of Arunachal Pradesh in Chinese language and the map showed Arunachal’s southern boundary with Assam and northern boundary with China in broken lines, while the state’s eastern and western boundaries with Bhutan and Myanmar are shown in continuous white lines.
Google apologized/clarified and now, Google is showing different maps to Indians and Chinese. The Chinese version shows Arunachal Pradesh inside China’s borders while Indian version shows it inside India.
And there is third version – i.e. the global version (http://maps.google.com/) which shows Arunachal Pradesh as a disputed territory!
This, as Google says is in accordance with disputed territory’s political position for the country – Google follows same standard for J&K as well.
What’s your opinion on Google’s stand? Politically correct? (an attempt to please Chinese Government?).
Even Geography is relative, atleast in the eyes of Google (especially when it comes to China).
