Google launches ‘Bolo’, an app to improve reading ability of primary grade children #AIforEdu

Google has launched a an app called ‘Bolo’ for primary grade children, through which they can improve their Hindi and English speaking skills.

The app works offline as well, and thus children can learn with the help of it, anytime and anywhere.

The app which uses Google’s speech recognition and text-to-speech technology is optimised for native Hindi speakers.

The app has ‘Diya’ an inbuilt reading buddy which aids, explains and corrects the child.

Designed for primary grade children, Bolo helps to improve their English & Hindi reading skills, by encouraging them to read aloud – just as they would naturally do – and giving them instant feedback – even when completely offline.

The content on the app is completely free and consists of 50 stories in Hindi and 40 in English, with more engaging content in pipeline.

The app has been piloted with 900 children in 200 villages of Uttar Pradesh, with encouraging results. 64% of children showed an improvement in reading proficiency, just within 3 months.
