Google has renamed its decade old tool set Webmaster Tools to Google Search Console in an attempt to avoid scaring off non-webmasters and seeming more inclusive.
The company states that apart from webmasters, hobbyists, small business owners, SEO experts, marketers, programmers, designers, and app developers are users of the tools.
With webmasters being just one segment of its user base, the company felt it compelling enough to come up with a name that was more inclusive of the rest of its user base.
There haven’t been any changes in terms of functionality, although Google has been more frequent in adding new features to the tool over the past couple of weeks.
Apart from the name, Google has also changed the logo, and while the URL hasn’t changed, the company has added a short URL g.co/SearchConsole.
