In India, Google Will Now Optimize Search Result Page Based On Internet Speed [BigMobility]

Google’s moves in India indicate that the search giant has concentrated on the Indian market which could be the next big hub for Google.

Google will soon enable faster internet searches for mobile phones with slow internet connection in India. Increasingly, people in India are accessing the Internet through mobile devices such as their smartphones. However, not all of these devices come with fast, cheap connections. Today, we’re launching a new streamlined version of our search results page in India to help.

Now, we will automatically check to see if a user has a slow wireless connection and deliver a fast loading version of Search. Fewer bytes means you get your answer faster—and cheaper! Google’s high-quality results will remain the same, but elements such as images and maps will only show up when they are an essential part of the result. [source]

The newer versions of search results will have lesser data on the results page in terms of images and maps. These services will be visible only if needed by the user and will improve browsing speed.

Optimized services for the Indian market are something that most major companies have accepted. Earlier Facebook had started with bandwidth targeting for advertisements, where media rich content would be replaced by images and made available on slower connections. Google itself has launched the Android One with the Indian market in mind, where low cost feature rich products by Indian makers were launched for the market.

Most of these services will probably be made available soon in other countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan where similar markets exist.

The search company has also been in talks to facilitate online sales of DWCRA (Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas) products in Andhra Pradesh. By this service around seven lakh women working under the DWCRA groups will get support from Google to sell their products online. Google is also working closely with the AP government to develop mobile-ready websites for the government and to enable regional language support to the websites.

There has also been speculations about Google developing a whatsapp like messenger service which will be tested in india.
