Government Requests to Google User Account Data Go Up [Transparency Report]

Google Transparency Report says India made 2,513 user data requests for data on 4,401 accounts. In 66% of the cases, Google provided the data it was asked for.

The number of user data requests made by the Indian Government to Google saw a marginal decline in the six month period between July- December 2013.  However, the number of user accounts the Government sought information about has gone up. So nothing to cheer about there.

Google Transparency

The company which recently updated its transparency report said that in the reporting period, 2,513 user data requests were made by the Government asking for data about 4,401 accounts. In 66% of the cases, Google provided the data it was asked for.

The United States made the most number of attempts to access user data from Google followed by India.
