The HRD ministry has said the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) will have to provide reservation for candidates from the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes in teaching appointments, arguing that reservation is provided in the Constitution and no one can bypass it.
The IIMs have so far resisted the move, citing, “quality concerns”, although IITs have implemented it, by appointing assistant professors. IIMs will have to reserve faculty positions after a meeting between the directors and chairpersons of the 19 schools and HRD minister Prakash Javadekar.
