Digital Comic & Animation Startup Graphic India Raises $2.8mn

Digital comic and animation startup Graphic India has announced raising $2.8 million in seed funding led by CA Media LP and NYC-based Start Media.
The firm wants to build a character franchise similar to how America gave the world superheros and Japan anime.
Graphic India is looking to target the 550 million Indian youth under the age of 25 that are helping accelerate the growth of the tablet and smartphone markets in the country.
The recently raised capital will be used to roll-out a number of digital products and apps in order to build engagement and grow the community of passionate comic book and animation fans in the country.
Further, Graphic India is looking to launch a number of free comics and videos in English, Hindi, Tamil and other local Indian languages.
Founded in January 2013, the firm had earlier raised $2.5 million led by CA Media, and has entered into partnerships with Cartoon Network, Rovio, YouTube, Mandalay and Lionsgate to license its comics and characters.
