Social messaging app Hike messenger has crossed the 15 Million user mark. According to the company over 80% of their user base is comprised of youth, under the age of 25.
Kevin Bharti Mittal, the creator of Hike tells us that 15 million is the number of total registered users. “A large majority of the users are on Android followed by Windows Phone and then S40. iOS is at 4th spot,” Kavin said.
Over 80% of the app users are under 25 in age. Features like ‘Last Seen are especially targeted towards the youth. Hike Offline is another feature that lets users send free messages to their friends who’re offline.
Hike, is headed by Kavin Bharti Mittal, son of Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Mittal. Kavin heads strategy and new product development at Bharti SoftBank.
The messenger was launched in December 2012 by Bharti SoftBank, a joint venture between Bharti Enterprises and Japan’s SoftBank Corp. Softbank had invested $7 million in the app company which claimed to have crossed 5 million users since its launch in December last year.
Earlier in 2013, hike released a new version with support for Spanish, French, Russian, and Portuguese besides English and German.
Mobile messengers have been hogging the limelight recently. Earlier today, WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook for $19 bn and Viber was earlier sold to Japanese Internet company Rakuten for $900 mn.
