Very recently, we covered an interesting Bangalore based startup, itsmymeal that serves food and importantly, manages the entire process on its own. The company owns right from ordering the food to delivery to collecting the meal bag, the company ensures that they provide a tiffin-like service, at the professionalism level of a restaurant delivery service.

NCR based Homecurry takes a very creative route to this problem and the company has created a platform that enables one to order food by homechefs (i.e. housewives).

You also have an option to change your taste everyday through multiple menu options prepared by various housewives – i.e. think of this as a private label Dabbawala (logistics owned by Homecurry) that sources food from multiple housechefs, giving the right mix of professional food delivery and home made food.homecurry For every cook, you get a detailed menu/schedule and can change the chef as per your convenience – that is, a marketplace that gives business to housechefs and home-made food to consumers.

Gurgaon based Homecurry is soon expanding to entire NCR and also offers office meals etc; and will take franchisee route for expanding to other cities.

Here is an interview with Homecurry cofounder, Manoj Gupta: Please share the entire model/process. Right from recruiting housewives for cooking to menu preparation to coordination.

Manoj Gupta: provides a complete and flexible online platform to order your home cooked, healthy and tasty lunch from variety of menu options prepared by various Homechefs. We engage housewives as cooks through a well defined process including meals trials, kitchen hygiene & other factors. We decide the menus with them to ensure variety in taste & cuisines, and publish them under their own name along with the description on Homecurry. Our customers who are mainly from corporates can register on our site and choose the meal according to their taste and preferences. They need not to stick to only one particular cook and meal type as is with other existing conventional tiffin/meal services. Users are allowed to plan their meals and date preferences as per their choice and are not required to subscribe for the whole month. Besides they can modify or cancel their orders, and manage their complete account online. We support online, food coupons or COD mode of payment. provides an opportunity for the Homemakers to earn and showcase their cooking talent from the comfort of their homes. We associate with Housewives, passionate for cooking, through initial discussions and food trials. The menu is worked out to avoid commonalty with other cooks’ menu on a particular day and is published for one whole month through mutual agreement on the website. We provide the housewives with the necessary vegetables/pulses at their home. Generally we source the curries that carry their unique taste, for their menu from them in the morning. The rest of the items (Chappati, Rice, Raita and Salad) in the meal are prepared at the Homecurry’s base kitchen to standardize the quality of the overall meal. The orders are taken online till predefined time in the morning, and packed and delivered within the lunch hour window. homecurry_cook What is the payout for housewives to be a part of this network?

Manoj Gupta: We have a very flexible model to engage housewives depending on their convenience and payout is according to their expertise, efforts & time involved. They can decide their menu for the week which is then published on our site. We have central procurement arrangements and provide them with vegetables and other materials. This saves both their cost and time. Besides we take care of the burdensome task of preparing chappati, rice etc at our own base kitchen setup.

Depending upon the demand of meals and the capacity limitations, a housewife can earn between 7k to 12k per month by just spending 2 hours every day. Besides they get the recognition for their culinary skills in terms of ratings, comments from the end customers as the menu is published under their name only. Future plans? when do you plan to move to NCR?

Manoj Gupta: We are currently planning to launch our services in Pune over next 3-5 months period. We will then look forward to move into Noida, Delhi and Bangalore in a franchisee model within next one year. What’s your prior experience/more info about the founding team?
Manoj Gupta:  Our founding team comprises of ideal mix of professionals having multiple years of experience in food, hospitality, process and IT industry. The IT team comprises of engineering graduates most of them having over 14 years of experience in software development/ecommerce applications for fortune 500 clients.
