Host video conferences, organize webinars using UniRow

It is very rare that you get a chance to talk to a startup and test out their product at the same time. Yet, uniRow’s web conferencing tools served us well when we talked to their CEO Nimit Kumar.

Recently demoed at UnPluggd, uniRow aims to unify the entire enterprise communication and collaboration tools into one single package. Unlike other popular services, which have separate packages and pricing for video conferencing, webinars or live streaming of an event, uniRow unifies all of these services into a single package along with adding telephony to the group.unirow

The pricing for the premium service goes from as low as $20/month for 25 attendees to $400/year which includes 5GB of storage and option for 1000 attendees. Though all the collaboration tools work across all price bands, something to be kept in mind is that the billing for the telephony is separate.

The entire service is browser based, so there is no setting up or downloading of software required. After the host has sent out the email for joining the conference, the attendees get an option to either join via PC for an audio/video call or they can join via a phone. In which case they would enter their number and receive a call to join in the conference. No access codes nothing.

In our trying out of the service, in which we talked to the people at uniRow, via video conferencing using a PC and an audio call via the phone, the service worked flawlessly. The only time we faced issue was when the bandwidth on the internet was low and though uniRow does have compression technology in place to automatically adjust the quality of the video on the basis of the available bandwidth.

The company is planning to launch an Android app along with releasing new features like communicating with existing email and cloud storage services. They are currently working on their API which is available on request.

In terms of users, uniRow is targeting small and medium enterprises. The service has been fairly popular amongst IT services and financial institutions and Nimit adds that the education services have started to use their service as a teaching tool. They get most of their current users from US and India, and they are receiving a lot of interest from South Asian countries like Indonesia and South Korea. In the next step of their growth they will be targeting the fresh crop of Indian startups.

The service is simple to use and collaborate and does deserve a try atleast using its free account. If for nothing else, we live streamed the recently concluded UnPluggd using uniRow, i.e. ate the dog food!!
