Spend time thinking about what you want. Your manager cannot read your mind. Managers can help you see the opportunities at your current workplace. But you will have to decide for yourself if that’s what you really want.
- You’re responsible for yourself. Ask questions if you don’t know something. Ask for a raise or for a promotion. If you’re unhappy, say it.
- Give your manager a break. Managers are just people. Sometimes they’re stressed out and not ready to listen to you.
- Choose your managers wisely. Consider not only a job or a pay but also a manager. Also, remember that a great engineer may make a horrible manager.
