2461 IIT dropouts in last two years, says HRD Ministry

Data from the Ministry of Human Resource and development reveals that more than 2400 students dropped out from IITs in the last two years. The data gathered is from 23 IITs of which 57% of the dropouts are from IIT Delhi and Kharagpur.

The MHRD cited reasons as shifting to the other institutions, personal or medical reasons, placement during PG courses and pursuing higher education abroad. MHRD also added that corrective measures were taken to destress students.

A counseling center and a student welfare center have been set up in IIT Kharagpur to help students cope up with stress.
