While Facebook cut the degrees of separation by many, we often tend to miss family events, and important updates about near and dear ones as everyone is not comfortable in having family on their friends list.
A Mumbai based startup wants to solve this problem. The startup called Imlee, has introduced the concept of family networking in India, providing a private platform for family interactions.
With a dedicated platform for families, Imlee helps you discover everything about your family – It could be something about the family history, an old family picture or a common interest you share with your uncle/grandpa.
How does it work?
Users can login to the platform using email or Facebook account and build their family network by adding details like father, mother grand father’s name with entire family tree. After this, they can invite relatives by extending an invitation via Facebook, email or family tree.
Besides adding family members Imlee users’ can feed details such as name, relationship status including contact details. Interestingly the platform allows users to view stat like total # of members in family tree, male female ratio, relatives and children per generation and relationship status.
Launched in February 2012, Imlee today has more than 34k users and over 4 lakhs profiles. The largest family tree on imlee has over 3000 members.
Speaking of Imlee’s traction so far, Aatish Dedhia, its founder said
At present Imlee boasts of more than 30,000 unique visitors per month with 2 lakhs page views. The average time spent by per users on the platform is about 4 minutes.
The current focus of the team is to expand the user base and enhance visibility. “Being a niche social networking website, ads could be a major revenue source for imlee in future,” added Dedhia.
Imlee is an initiative by Pebstone – a startup incubator by Zycus that focuses on new products in the mobile and social media space.
Globally, there are websites like Geni and MyHeritage that allow users to build their family tree but their focus is towards genealogy while websites in the west like FamilyLeaf, SocialParent, eFamily etc are networks on the same lines as Imlee.
