In India, It is Illegal to give lifts to strangers #TIL

TIL(Today I learned) that it is illegal to give lift to people – no matter how needy they are.

A Navi Mumbai resident was booked for offering a lift to three people, including an elderly, stranded in the rains.
The traffic police confiscated his driving licence and fined him ?1,500 under Section 66(1) read with 192(a) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which says: “No owner of a motor vehicle shall use it as a transport vehicle whether or not such a vehicle is actually carrying any passengers or goods.”

And then, it is the same government which is promoting (or trying to promote) car pooling.
