Recently Nokia had announced a new version of OVI maps available for download at no cost & within few days of their launch only, Nokia observed a huge upsurge in their download numbers. Since the launch of the new version of Maps with free walk and drive navigation, there have been 1.4+ million downloads with over 20% coming from China. As per the last statistics, the top five countries downloading the new version of Maps were China, Italy, UK, Germany and Spain. The top five most popular Nokia devices installing the download were Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, N97 mini, N97, 5230 and E72 (via: Ovi)
As far as India is concerned, seems like this Internet services brand from Nokia is now gaining popularity in India too with it being one of the top five countries in terms of number of overall downloads on Ovi Store. (via: TOI). Considering the increasing popularity of Ovi in India, Nokia is now planning to launch billing in Indian currency by March 2010 as well as localized content for Indian market. With more than 4 million registered developers around the world and over 1.8 million Indian developers creating localized applications for Indian users, the handset leader Nokia seems to increase its focus on Indian market for its services brand too.
Though not in great number, but one can surely see some desi content on Ovi store now. However, how many of them are popular or easy to install is still a question. The review & quality of current desi content clearly indicates the need for some better apps with more interesting content along with easy to use features.
