Indias are going mobile and given the competitive GPRS tariff plans, expect mobile Internet to gain huge popularity in the coming days.
An obvious application/service one would need is aggregation of hyperlocal service. A service that essentially replaces the newspaper and gives you information on-demand, on-the-move.
Mobiesta is a neat app that provides latest information across categories like
- Sales and shopping offers
- Happy hours and Food Specials in restaurants and pubs
- Exhibitions and fairs
- Musical concerts
- Stage shows’
- Cultural fests
- Movie timings.
Content is divided across 9 categories and one can browse it according to location (Noida ,Gurgaon,Delhi), Choice of interest (Exhibition,Pub ,Music concert) and Bargain Hunting (Coupon and Discount sale).
Not really a hyperlocal, but the app is mostly restricted to lifestyle categories and runs on any Java supported phone.

Mobiesta (download from here) needs GPRS connection and currently has data for Delhi/NCR but very soon launching its operations in various cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata. Roadmap includes support for payment gateways to book tickets.
Looking at the app, one would have expected BuzzInTown to come up with this (BiT has a mobile site, but app has its own utility), but it’s always good to see new players finding a niche and cracking it up.
