The latest Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) 2017-18 study highlights that the Indian job market does not pay well. It suggests that 45% of salaried employees in India were paid less than Rs. 10,000 per month. While those earning above Rs. 50,000 a month were a mere 4%.
It states that over 17% of people between 15-29 years and over 6% of the overall labour force reported unemployment. Only 8% of Indians were salaried employees, which is way too low in comparison to other economies.
Wages were found to be higher in urban areas than those of rural areas. Also, men were being paid more regardless of the area.
