BOSS – the Desi Operating System from C-DAC

We aren’t talking about the yahoo search api, but the desi operating system developed by C-DAC – Bharat Operating System Solutions, i.e. BOSS.

Derived from Debian, the recently released desktop version 3.0 supports 18 Indian languages (Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Bodo, Urdu, Kashmiri, Maithili, Konkani, Manipuri) – and includes a host of features to enhance its utility: a 3-D desktop; support for Bluetooth wireless devices; a document reader for the PDF format and application tools in all Indian languages.

BOSS CDs are available in all the C-DAC centers in India or one can call up the support center and request a DVD – of if you have good Internet connection, download the ISO image here.

Do you think BOSS can provide the much needed momentum for PC adoption in India?
