Govt To Launch ‘Skill Card’ To Help Employers Verify Job Seeker Credentials

The Union Government is all set to launch a ‘skill card’ that will be used by employers to verify the skill training credentials obtained by any job seeker.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to unveil the card on Wednesday and will save job seekers the hassle of carrying original certificates when going in for a job interview.

The skill card will use a QR code, which upon being scanned will let an employer know what sort of skill training program a person has undergone and will display copies of original certificates stored on the cloud.

The skill and entrepreneurship ministry will begin giving skill cards to select few schemes initially and will become the norm for all 70-odd skill schemes from all the 21 ministries and departments.

How useful will the card be? The verdict on that is still split as some believe the government could have simply linked the program to an existing card or number like Aadhar.
