India’s MeitY to Regulate Usage of Vulgar Language Across Social Media Platforms

  • The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has pledged to incorporate rules to make social media platforms safer from vulgar language use.
  • The move comes in response to an existing ruling by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma at the Delhi High Court, with future regulations to be in accordance.
  • This response precedes a prior case relating to the use of obscene language in web series ‘College Romance’ on OTT platforms.
