Report: E-ticketing crosses 5.56 million bookings in April’12

Shopping is the third most popular category on the internet, be it mobile or desktop. This was revealed by an eBay survey a few days back. Though it spoke more for smartphones it gives accreditation to the fact online shopping is a rapidly growing sector on the internet. And Travel tops the list of categories. As per a report released by IAMAI (Internet and Mobile Association of India), e-ticketing continues to grow in the country with IRCTC recording 5.56 million bookings in April, 2012. This is 3.3 million more than what was recorded in April 2011. And airline booking are not far behind. It recorded 1.92 million bookings in April 2012, as compared to 1.01 million bookings in April 2011.

Coming down to another online shopping trend the report reveals that branded apparel top the list, 5 million visits in the month of April’12 compared to 2.54 million visits in the same month past year. This category is closely followed by footwear, designer labels and jewellery.


Another segment that has come up in this report and has witnessed tremendous growth is matrimonial sites. The number of profile uploads has increased to 2.74 million during April 2012 from 1.35 million in April 2011. And if you thought this was enough there is more. Online recruitment sites are doing well too. There has been an increase of 0.23 million resume uploads this April’12.

IAMAI’s ‘Industry Economy Watch’ report is claimed to be based on absolute numbers collected from various relevant websites.
