SC Strikes Down IPC Sec 66A of IT Act 2000; Termed It As “unconstitutional”

Supreme_Court_of_India_-_RetouchedIn a landmark judgment today, the Supreme Court of India dismissed the controversial IPS section 66A of Information and Technology Act 2000, a provision under which the law enforcements can arrest any person for posting offensive contents on websites like Facebook etc.
Describing the law as “vague in its entirety,” the judges said, it encroaches upon “the public’s right to know.”
The judgment was on the series of petitions filed by a law student Shreya Singhal, Taslima Nasreen and other civic rights activists group.
