Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications has announced that, starting November 1st, they will be offering the new Apple iPhone 5S & 5C in India, just in time for Diwali. Airtel has already started taking pre-registrations for the devices at its retail stores.
iPhone 5C is expected to be retailing at a price starting from Rs 41,900 and iPhone 5S at price starting from Rs 53,500.
iPhone 5 currently retails in India for about Rs 45,000 for the 16GB version and Rs 59,000 for the 64GB version.
Last week Apple officially announced the the launch of new iPhone 5S & 5C in India starting November 1st, but did not announce the prices of the devices.
On October 25th Apple set to these devices in a set of 25 new countries, but India was not on that list. Apple products are launched usually much later in India compared to other markets. Apple has also yet to start selling its products directly in India, it is currently done through Apple authorized resellers.
Apple has plans to triple the number of its exclusive stores in India to have around 200 of them by 2015.
Last year, Apple started beefing up its distribution in India through partners.Besides selling through operators like Airtel, and RCom, the company will also sell through distributors such as Redington and Ingram Micro.
In July this year, during the the quarterly earnings announcement, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that iPhone sales in India grew over 400% in the last quarter (April-June 2013).
