Is Jio Killing Cable TV?

Could the 'Jio revolution' be killing cable TV? According to a survey by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, close to half of Reliance Jio subscribers use the service mainly to watch live TV via the JioTV app. And what's more, 62 percent of the millennials surveyed in the report are willing to give up cable TV connections if internet speeds improve and streaming prices go down.
While the IPTV experiment – launched with much fanfare – failed in India many years ago, it is ironic that a tech-cycle later TV seems to be heading back in that direction, albeit via a rather roundabout route. There is still a long way to go for streaming to seriously threaten cable in homes though, as the report points out that a cable connection is cheaper in most places in India as compared to a streaming-friendly broadband connection.
