ISRO has successfully launched the ‘Pratham’ satellite designed and built by students of the IIT-Bombay among the eight satellites, it launched from one rocket into two different orbits. Conceptualised in 2008, Pratham was designed with the aim of making the institute a center for space science and technology research.

Pratham’s mission is to:
- Acquire knowledge in the field of satellite and space technology
- Measure the total electron counts (TEC) of ionosphere above India and Paris
- Involve students from other universities in the satellite project.
