Robin Uthappa Backed iTiffin Goes Back To Pavilion; Stops Operations

Bangalore based online tiffin service provider iTiffin.in, which is backed by cricketer Robin Uthappa, through his Caffeine Ventures, has stopped operations and has reportedly asked employees to look for another job.

The company’s website is down and it has stopped taking orders on its mobile app. The last update on its Facebook page was on the 27th of this month, which reads, ‘We’re taking a break. We’ll be back’. Interestingly, the company’s Whois record shows that it last updated its domain on 27-Mar-2016.

Launched in 2013 by Tapan Kumar Das, an IIM-Ahmedabad alumnus, who had previously been vice president of finance at Flipkart, iTiffin is a tiffin service company that offers high-quality healthy meal plans for homes and offices and schools. In fact, on the 27th again, in an article published in TOI about school tiffin services in India, iTiffin was said to be supplying, “nearly 1,000 food trays to five Bengaluru schools every day.” Its founder was also quoted as saying that it has nearly 300 parents who have subscribed to their lunches in 2 years.

Why did the company, which had either halted or planning to halt operations, was chest-thumping about its services to the media, is yet to be known. However, the development is not surprising given that similar food startups like Dazo, TinyOwl and SpoonJoy have either packed their bags or tilting in thin air. (first spotted by vccircle).
