Its Official: Skype Deal Closed For Whopping $2.75 Billion

So in the end, ebay, the online auction company sold Skype for $2.75 billion to investors group led by Silver Lake. At last the two architects of popular peer-to-peer calling service providers  got something to cheer about as they bagged two seats on the Board of Directors.

There has been on going controversy over copyright of Skype software between ebay and co founders of Skype for quite a while. After a bitter battle over misuse of code and copyright infringement, the founders of Skype dropped their lawsuits against ebay.

As a part of this deal, the lion’s share belongs to Silver lake, Andreessen Horowitz, and the Canada Pension plan investment Board ( CPPIB) that is 56% of the stake. While ebay gets 30% equity investment in the form of $1.9 billion in cash and a note of $125 million. The remaining pie: 14 percent stake goes to co founders Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis of Skype.

All in all, looks like every one are happy over this deal. Its high time to think on adding more features on Skype.
