Online travel platform ixigo has launched ixigo buses, an app to find and book bus tickets in India. The company, has been launching dedicated apps for various services like air ticketing & hotels and railway ticketing.
The new app allows you to find deluxe buses, Volvos, A/C coaches and inter-state road transport buses between any two Indian towns. It aggregates information from 6 different bus ticketing sites including MakeMyTrip, Goibibo, TravelYaari and via.com so as to find the cheapest tickets for your journey.
The results can be filtered further by time of departure, price of the ticket and the duration of the journey. You can also filter by boarding point. The apps also allows you to check buses availability for 6 days before or after your desired date of travel. It saves your recent searches so that you don’t have to type it out again.
When we tried out the app, the user interface was simple and the app was fast. If it did not find a bus, it prompted you to check Rail tickets, but to do this you would be directed to the Play Store to download the ixigo rail app.
After you select a ticket you are redirected to a bus ticketing website on the mobile web. This beats the very purpose of having an app. If you going to do some bits of it in a native app and then redirect users later on it causes an inconvenience to the customers, who would probably prefer to use the mobile version of the website. The redBus app allows you to complete the whole procedure including the payment natively.
Recent Updates in the Bus Ticketing Industry
Ixigo had added bus ticketing to its website in September 2008. The website has launched separate apps for flights and hotels, railway tickets, and also a standalone app for checking the PNR status of railway and air tickets.
ixigo had earlier raised $18.5 million from SAIF Partners & MakeMyTrip. Earlier this year, it launched an innovative mobile app – “On the Way! ” that allows road travelers to access relevant information on all useful and interesting stoppages along their route.
redBus was acquired by South Africa based Naspers group in June this year but the company will continue to function independently.
Last December, PayTM launched Bus Ticketing
You can download the app from the Google Play Store here.
