Jio Sets ‘World Record’, Claims to Have Enrolled 16 Million Users in First Month

Telecom operator Reliance Jio has announced that the network has created a world record by crossing 16 million in total subscribers during the first month of operations. Jio, a new entrant in the 4G market, has achieved this growth faster than any other telecom operator or startup in the world, including the likes of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Skype, the company said.

A much-awaited telecom disruptor, Jio was launched to much fanfare in September this year, offering free voice and data till the end of the year. The company has also introduced Aadhaar-based paperless Jio SIM activation across 3,100 cities and towns. This enables the customer to complete the SIM activation process in a matter of minutes, with only his/her Aadhaar number.
