Justdial has launched an Android app to allow Android Mobile phone users to leverage its data services. The app is an easy to install – easy on the eyes app with a good landing page which contains navigation buttons.
After install, it automatically detected my city (Bangalore) and gave me the options for searching for businesses inside Bangalore (along with data like temperature / humidity etc).
It is packed with a lot of features like restaurant search, searching for movies, hotels, events, ATMs, Doctors, Fuel stations. They also have tried to get into local deals a la Zomato and Groupon and a Foursquare like TYF (Tag your friends feature) – where they let you know when a friend visits a particular location. The latter two features however didn’t show me anything – I guess they still are populating their database for this.
I went a bit deep into their restaurant search (most common among all startups), and tried searching Near Me. Surprisingly it came up with a lot of good suggestion – arranged according to their budget type (which is pretty cool as well). It also allowed me to directly call these numbers mentioned (wherever the numbers exist). I wasn’t sure about the reviews – but I think figuring out the nearest and in budget restaurant for me – was a good experience.
Overall here are a few points –
- The clean UI and look and feel was heartening and easy to use.
- Fetching the location status wasn’t very accurate – but the results were satisfactory.
- The fetching was fast – I have an Edge network – but there is a latency in every step you want more information. I am not sure how that can be avoided though.
- I got a couple of network errors, they should handle it better I guess.
- Two of our editors reported crashes as well – although I didn’t face one myself.
Overall it is a nice app – leveraging their content. Not very different from some others in the space – but as long as they have rich content to back up, they will be good.
Important to note that the app crashes on Android version 2.1, but worked perfectly fine on 2.2+ versions.
