Karnataka prisoners will soon have digitized identity cards which can also be used as ATM cards.
Once the card is scanned, all the data including number of cases, parole details will be revealed. The card will print the name of the prisoner, father’s name, prisoner identification number, ward barrack cell number.
The Karnataka state prison department also plans to create bank accounts and all the wages earned will be deposited in the account. The card can also be used to purchase from canteen.
The card will also list two contacts and will be allowed to call only those contacts. Visitors will also need to make online entries to meet inmates and will have submit their government identity card for the same. A similar attempt was made in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
