Amazon has announced the launch of its flagship Kindle Voyage e-reader in India at a price of Rs 16,499, which will be available via Amazon.in as well as major offline retailers.
The device which made its debut at the fag end of last year, features a thinner construction, a higher resolution display and for the first time force sensors in the bezels to turn pages.
The Kindle Voyage is just 7.6mm thick and features a display with a resolution of 300 ppi. The front light now adaptive brightness and is programmed to dim over time as a user’s eyes get accustomed to darkness.
The two force sensors under the front bezels simulate page turns when pressure is applied, while in terms of design the device now features a flush front glass panel and an origami-style magnesium rear.
One of the most attractive features however is Amazon’s free 3G offer, where the company pays for the 3G connection, without users having to pay a monthly fee or sign any annual contract.
Users of the Kindle Voyage will have access to over 3 million eBooks in the Indian Kindle Store, which they can now purchase ueing local credit and debit cards, net banking or Amazon.in gift cards.
Carried over from previous generations of the Kindle, the Voyage has a battery that lasts for a week and comes with useful tools such as Whispersync, Smart Lookup and Vocabulary Builder.
