LG’s LTE Capable Watch Urbane To Go On Sale In South Korea [Takes On The Apple Watch]

LG has announced that its LTE capable Watch Urbane will go on sale in South Korea for 650,000 KRW ($590), putting it right up against the Apple Watch.
The device doesn’t run on Google’s Android Wear software, but instead LG’s own wearable platform which is based on WebOS. While there’s also an Android Wear version of the Watch Urbane, it doesn’t come with support LTE bands.
The Watch Urbane comes with a brushed metal chassis that’s more reminiscent of traditional high-end analog watches than a smartwatch. The device is broadly based on the G Watch R, but gives off a more premium look and feel, winning it praise among early reviewers.
While it isn’t clear when the LG Watch Urbane might make its way out of South Korea, the premium take on the device is clear that the company wants to go after the Apple Watch.
It is still to be seen if manufacturers like LG also take the plunge into the luxury smartwatch market in pursuit of the Apple Watch Edition.
