On LinkedIn Being “Responsible” May Just Not Be Cool Enough [2013 Corporate Buzzwords]

linkedinThink “responsible” is one word that will make you different from the rest on LinkedIn? Well, so do 259 million other professionals! At Least according to LinkedIn, who today released a list of most commonly used “buzzwords”. The networking site for professionals found the word “responsible” to be the most overused catch phrase or word used by working professionals from across the world.

This follows close on the heels of Facebook’s “Year In Review” data released yesterday that displayed the most talked about topics and people in the world this year. This is the fourth year that LinkedIn is publishing the results for the most overused words. Back in 2011 and 2012, the buzzword used most was “creative”.

Meanwhile, in India, the trend in buzzwords has been quite interesting. While in 2011 and 2012 – two years straight, the word “effective” was most used by professionals, in 2013, it moved to second place giving way to- you guessed it – “responsible”. Among other most commonly used words by Indian professionals were the words “strategic”, “expert” and “innovative”.

“Getting rid of the buzzwords and adding examples of one’s work in the form of rich content like photos, presentations, videos, etc. will help members receive relevant insights and opportunities.” Says Nishant Rao, Country Manager- LinkedIn India.
