Pioneering Internet search company Lycos has announced that it will be offering a selection of patents from its large IP portfolio for sale, ranging from search engine technology to online advertising.

While the company hasn’t been making any headlines in recent times, many of its patents are still relevant enough for Google to have got into trouble over old Lycos tech as recently as 2012.

The decision to dispose a part of its IP portfolio comes at a time when the company is ready to roll-out a few physical products in the coming weeks.

Lycos says it came to the decision to make its IP portfolio available to the industry for acquisition or licensing after consulting with Propeller(y), an IP consulting initiative.

The portfolio of patents covers a range of internet technologies, spanning from search engines to online multiplayer gaming – with the company claiming some of its patents are still employed in the mobile and IoT industries.
