Make in India now has over 268 mobile handset and accessories brands producing their goods in the country. When launched, the scheme had just 2 participating companies.
Currently, over 95% of phones and accessories used in India are being manufactured locally and these factories employ over 6.7 lakh people, as per research.
The number of mobile handsets produced in India has gone up to 225 million in 2017-18 from 60 million in 2014-15. The National Policy on Electronics 2019 aims at 1 billion units and a turnover of Rs 26 lakh crore by 2025.
