MakeMytrip has launched routeplanner, which enables users to search across 1 billion routes and modes combination within India. routeplanner offers users to search for information about various aspects of travelling – such as distance between any of the chosen routes with available modes of transport (flights, trains, bus, cab) and estimated duration for the journey and fare across different modes.
Makemytrip’s routeplanner offers email itinerary option so that users can email the details of the searched routes. Users can also see details of transit places (railway stations, airports, and road routes), from where one has to change train, bus and cab with timings (in case of flights and train) to reach the desired destination.
Competing with iXiGo?
Important to note that MMT owns 19.9% in iXiGo, which launched similar app named ‘Trip Planner’. iXiGo’s Trip planner presents curated travel content for modes of transportation, estimated fuel consumption, driving directions, eateries, places to visit etc.
Unless MMT’s routeplanner is powered by iXiGo (which doesn’t seem to be the case), isn’t MMT competing with iXiGo in this business? Given that iXiGo’s next big bet is Trip planner, do you see a conflict of interest w.r.t both companies launching similar products?
We have reached out to Aloke (iXiGo) for more details and will update when we receive the response.
