Newspapers in Manipur have halted publication, saying they have no money to run the business following the demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.
The All Manipur Newspaper Publishers Association and the All Manipur Newspaper Sales and Distributors Association have unanimously decided to stop the publication of newspapers across the state from today.
In a joint statement, the associations said the non-availability of adequate legal tender notes has prevented regular circulation of newspapers.
“Advertisers have no new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 currency notes and the management has now refused to accept the demonetised notes,” Paonam Labango Mangang, proprietor, and editor of the Kangla Pao said.
“We also apologize for the public inconvenience in this regard,” the associations said.
