The ministry says it has launched the app has it seeks to address problems of unanswered phone calls and long queues of its various services by providing all information regarding visas, passports, embassies diplomacies and foreign relations in one place.
The app has various features including daily updates from over 100 India Embassies and also a feature to follow the Prime Minster when he is abroad. Users of the app can interact with the External Minster who will answer questions related to the ministry.
The Passport section of the app has instructions on how to apply, location of the nearest Passport Seva Kendra, the forms which one can download from the app iteself, a fee calculator and also a way to track your application. It does not look like you can apply for a passport through the app.
The app has a media center with all the latest updates and a quiz section where users can win prizes.
The app also provides all information regarding to the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra and the Haj including details regarding the application process, forms, flight and hotel details and FAQs.
The app is quite detailed and provides a lot of information for Indians looking to travel abroad and also for people that are planning to travel to India. This app is the first app launched by any Indian ministry aimed at the public.
There was already an app – mPassport Seva by the Consular, Passport and Visa (CPV) division of the Ministry of External Affairs on the Play Store which provided information on the passport process. But this new app looks to get more functionality to the process as well as adding other services of the MEA in it.
The Indian government has an app store for m-governance apps which is still quite underwhelming even after being out for more than six months.
