MeitY and Niti Aayog dispute over AI mission roadmap

The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) has reached out to finance ministry to resolve a conflict over many overlaps between Niti Aayog’s 7000-crore AI mission and its own work area.

Niti Aayog says that ML and AI should be adopted by all departments ensuring that there is no duplication of work. While, MeitY has a separate 400-crore program for setting up national AI program and has raised an objection to Niti Aayog’s AI mission, multiple times earlier.

Experts feel the country needs the latest technologies like blockchain, AI and ML, etc as these have a potential to add $957 billion to India’s GDP by 2035.
