Micromax has released the Jelly Bean update for the A110 Canvas 2 mobile. It made the announcement on its Facebook Page. This phone proved highly popular because of its specifications and price tag.
The update is not an OTA update but has to be done at service centers. Only select service centers will be providing the update. So we suggest you head over to the Micromax website and call up the service center before you head out.
Micromax has also shared the Jelly Bean update file, which they recommend only advanced users with experience in flashing ROMs should try. You can find instructions on how to update the phone this way on XDA.
The update is a 282 MB file and will bring the Canvas 2 to 4.1.1 which will bring Project Butter improvements, making the UI more fluid, along with Google Now, enhanced notifications and more. The update will also remove the M! Store and integrate new wallpapers.
The Micromax A110 Canvas 2 is powered by a 1 Ghz dual-core processor and comes with Power VR SGX531 graphics processor. It has got 5inch screen size with 854 x 480 pixels resolution. You can read our review of the phone here.
We wonder why Micromax chose not to update the phone over the air. This method will definitely inconvenience a lot of customers, but from our experience with other Jelly Bean phones this will be worth the trouble.
Update: We walked into the Micromax service center in Bangalore listed on their website only to be told that the update isn’t available. The service center also said that they have no idea when it will be available.
